Synopsis

Inspired by Kenneth Anger’s and John Water’s films, this piece explores the limitations of the two-gendered system while addressing the dilemma of genders from a transgender individual’s point of view.
This film is Gabi Vru’s autobiographical story, a dreamlike expression of the psychological journey he goes through while making the decision to transition from female to male. This film celebrates the new beginning and says goodbye to the old outer body shell.

Synopsis

La sexualité est de plus en plus vécue via le monde virtuel. « Baby you’re frozen » est un regard personnel et explicite sur la relation entre virtualité et intimité, sur la manière dont les réseaux sociaux facilitent les connections entre le cœur et le sexe sur de grandes distances et sur des fuseaux horaires différents tout en faisant obstacle aux sentiments de proximités. Un portrait brut et réel sur les stratégies d’adaptation de l’amour à longue distance au 21e siècle où le sexe sur Skype est ce que nous pouvons recevoir de mieux. Mais faire l’amour à un écran d’ordinateur ne peut satisfaire le besoin d’intimité physique avec l’ensemble de ses sensations.

Unfinished : exploring the transgender self

Synopsis

The 6-minute experimental film aims to construct transgender subjectivity through the use of visual and written language. The film borrows the lyrics from the song The Origin of Love in the transgender film Hedwig and The Angry Inch (2001), and retells the origin of human as “an organism with two sets of arms and legs” and “two faces peering out of one giant head”. Here, transgenderism is made possible based on this new concept of originated human. I argue that the searching for the lost half in Hedwig resembles the searching of the lost self in transgender people. My gender poem “Unfinished” thus attempts to formulate transgender subjectivity through retelling his gender struggle. In the film, I construct a parallel narrative by reciting the poetry lines from my own poem, as well as a black-and-white documentation of myself. The film is depicted in silent motion. The only narration in the film would be the recitation of my poem. The title of the film in Chinese literally means, “Not yet finished”. The ending of the film is yet the beginning of another individual story. I hope that, by making the first experimental film on local transgender, it would provoke other transgender individuals to create a language for their own stories.
